What is CEIAG?
At Bridge we call CEIAG our ‘Progression Programme’.
Our Progression Programme fully supports The Bridge Academy Mission: To ensure that every student can succeed at a good university or equivalent, thrive in their chosen field and live a great life.
The Progression Programme at The Bridge Academy is designed to allow all students to gain the knowledge and develop the skills and behaviours they need to make informed decisions about life after Bridge, and to succeed in a stratified society and a fast-changing world.
BENEFITING FROM INTERACTIONS WITH BUSINESS VOLUNTEERS AND BRIDGE ALUMNI
An essential part of the Programme is regular contact with people from the business world providing real-life insights into the world of work.
Each year, all of our students should meet business volunteers and former Bridge students who are either in work, doing an apprenticeship or at university. Between Years 7-13 Bridge students will have careers assemblies, employability and enterprise workshops, work placements, curriculum-based activities, and the opportunity to attend career insight evenings and the biennial careers fair. Sixth Formers are offered interview practice. We also work with a range of incredible partners including The Brokerage, Enabling Enterprise, Future First, Hackney Learning Trust Careers Collaboration, Hackney University Extension, Inspire!, Prospects, Pure Potential, UBS, colleges and universities.
Our Progression Programme is designed to ensure that every student is prepared to move from Year to Year, Key Stage to Key Stage, to university or a high quality apprenticeship or job. We aim to raise aspirations, broaden horizons and challenge stereotypes.
EXPERIENCE OF WORKPLACES
All Bridge students have a work experience placement in Years 10 and 12.
Work experience is an invaluable opportunity for students to learn first-hand about specific professions and careers. Work placements are decided as follows:
- We have a number of prestigious work placements at UBS for each cohort. All students may apply for one of these placements. 37% of our Year 13 leavers have had placements at UBS.
- Students have the opportunity to find their own placement with the support of our dedicated Work Experience Co-ordinator.
Students who do not wish to find their own placements will have a high quality work placement matched to their individual requirements. These are sourced by our partner, Inspire!
ENGAGING WITH UNIVERSITIES, COLLEGES, AND UNDERSTANDING DIFFERENT EDUCATIONAL PATHWAYS
Students have the opportunity to visit at least one university before Year 11 and twice in the Sixth Form, as well as hearing about different learning opportunities from sixth form colleges and technical qualification and apprenticeship providers amongst others.
PERSONAL GUIDANCE - ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS
Our full-time Higher Education and Careers Manager provides individual guidance to all our Sixth Form students.
Our Year 11s and Year 10 SEND students have personal interviews with an expert from Prospects.
Each Year group has its own Progression Programme and there are also tailored activities for students with specific needs including students with SEND.
LINKING CURRICULUM LEARNING TO CAREERS
Our partnership with UBS brings unique opportunities and links with professionals and specialists in a range of fields and 'real-life' insights which enhance the curriculum e.g. A Level Mathematics workshops on how differentiation is used on the trading floor and insights into UBS economists; IT experts connect classroom learning to how it is used in the workplace; and there is a Geography workshop on tackling climate change by UBS sustainability experts - UBS's 5 Broadgate office won UK Most Sustainable Building of the Year Award 2017.
During Science Week and at other times during the year, students learn about the relevance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM subjects) to a wide range of careers. Female Year 7 students have the opportunity to work with inspiring female professionals in digital careers by attending our 'Women in IT' careers workshop, and our Foundation Learners develop specific vocational skills through working with our college partners.
MAKING SURE OUR PROGRESSION PROGRAMME IS EXCELLENT
The Progression Programme aims to be outstanding in every Key Stage and, as part of this, we listen to students, parents, teachers and employers.
We use the Department of Education's Destinations Measures to ensure we are achieving the best possible destinations for our students, and the Compass online self-evaluation toolkit to see how we are doing against the Gatsby Benchmarks. Our latest results can be found HERE, these put us in the top 11% of schools as we are fully achieving at least five benchmarks. The next evaluation will be in Spring 2020. We are also committed to working towards meeting the Quality in Careers Standard incorporating the Gatsby Benchmarks, having achieved Level 1 in the Investors in Careers Award.
